“Slap in the Face” Award: How One Senator Views All Veterans

A quick one today...

I know it will be hard for some of you to believe but you can look this one up in the Los Angeles Times.

It goes out to all of us mentally ill veterans. You heard me right. According to Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, all veterans are mentally ill in some way – that’s a direct quote – and that’s why we should be prevented from owning firearms.

If that little ditty isn’t stupid enough, here’s what really puts it way over the top: It came from an article in the LA Times that was published in 2013.

So, I’m at loss here on two levels.

What kind of an idiot would say such a thing about any veteran, never mind all veterans?

I’m a disabled vet and the last time I checked, I haven’t been diagnosed with any mental illness. My brother is a vet, too. A combat wounded Vietnam vet. He was a Marine and I flew for the Navy. We can both be a little rough around the edges, but mentally ill? No!

Some of the best people I have ever known were in the military. Some of the worst, too, but what the heck!

Maybe it’s the Senator, not the vets. Maybe she should be checked for the quality of her attachment to reality.

But, moving on... How could something this outrageous, this stupid – that sounds as mentally challenged as it does – how could it have been said two years ago on the Senate floor without the national press picking up on it?

Imagine for just a second if John Boehner or Mitch McConnell said something even approaching anything this dumb. It would have been all we heard about on CNN, MSNBC and the networks for months.

That’s it. This is your congressionally designated mentally ill, disabled vet, Steve McDonald saying, send Senator Feinstein an email and let her know what you think of her and our vets.

Before I go, a quick commercial...

The Investment U Conference in St Petersburg, Florida, in March, if you‘ve never attended before, is one of the best things The Oxford Club does and it is well worth your time.

All of the Oxford Club Editors will be there and lots of other experts from the money business. Meeting our Members and getting to know them is one of the best parts of this job. I hope to see you there.
