BALTIMORE, February 4, 2005 — The Baltimore-based financial advisory, Investment U, an affiliate of Agora Publishing with over 270,000 readers worldwide, presented a check on Monday, January 24, 2005 representing donations of more than $100,000 from its readers to the American Red Cross and AmeriCares.
Frank L. Miller, the Executive Director for the Maryland Chapter of the American Red Cross, accepted the check and presented Investment U with a plaque. Upon presenting Julia Guth, Founder/Publisher of Investment U, with the plaque, Mr. Miller congratulated Investment U for its donation for tsunami relief, noting it was one of the top donations of its kind in Maryland. The Red Cross donation represented just over half of the total raised by Investment U through its unique tsunami relief fundraiser in which a free one-year membership to Investment U’s parent financial organization, The Oxford Club, was given to individuals who donated to relief efforts.
Investment U donated the initial $5,000 to get their relief fund started and quickly surpassed its goal of $60,000. Totaling over $100,000 in two weeks, the remaining $49,612.10 of the Investment U tsunami relief fund donations will be transferred to AmeriCares – a top donation agency choice among Investment U readers.
