Investment U Lesson # 2: Getting Your Global Strategies in Place… Just In Time
Today’s headlines did a good job of putting the special sessions on global investing strategies into perspective:
- A massive air strike launched in Iraq…
- Congress increased its credit limit by another $781 billion, boosting the federal debt ceiling to nearly $9 trillion…
- President Bush reaffirmed his pre-emptive, strike-first foreign policy and this time, Iran appears to be in the crosshairs…
Everyone up at the podium the last two days agrees: With the geopolitical situation being what it is…and the domestic spending policies being what they are…just about every good investment you can think of, is based on something that you hope won’t happen.
- Escalation of war in Iraq: Oil prices reflect a ‘fear premium’ that can raise prices - and profits
- Rising federal deficits affect fiat currencies: Gold can shoot through the roof
- 143 day drought threatens the Southwest: Promising water stocks could deliver massive profits to patient investors
No one here is suggesting that many of the political or economic conditions likely to deliver substantial future profits to smart investors are a good thing. But forewarned is forearmed.
I wish I could give you the recommendations that have been handed out here so far. Getting into these plays would make you feel much better when you read these kinds of headlines. Rick Rule has had a standing room only crowd for every single workshop he’s held here - because that’s where he reveals his favorite picks that will take advantage of every single one of the international trends that Horacio Márquez and the other global-minded speakers have outlined.
But such recommendations must be held back from this report, I’m afraid. To secure the inside scoop for yourself, you’ll have to get your own CD or DVD set of the conference recordings.
What Could Go Wrong Today?
This is the question you should ask yourself when you develop your trading plan, according to legendary trader trainer Van Tharp. His sessions were billed as being for serious traders only, but it seemed to me like information that could benefit just about any investor.
This morning started off with a well-attended breakfast trading game designed to show you what strengths and weaknesses every investor brings to the game of trading. To be successful, you need to know:
- What is your relationship to risk…
- Are your expectations reasonable given your risk tolerance…
- What kind of emotional disposition do you bring to your trading…
- Wow well can you follow a trading plan…
- Why is position sizing so important…
- And lots more little lessons, all taught in a fun, playful environment.
The best part of using Van’s teaching techniques and lessons is that your losses are only on paper…until you decide you’re ready for the real deal.
Van has dedicated decades to first learning and then teaching the art and science of trading…and if you want to avoid the pitfalls that usually lead to losses, you’ll want to tune in to Van’s workshop session. You’ll understand why you need to treat your trading like a business.
Most businesses fail because they fail to plan…and a trading business is no different. But most people think trading is easier than other kinds of business…and they fail to develop objectives, contingency plans, and other fail-safes that can keep their capital safe and growing.
When you see the kinds of gains you can get when you follow Van’s best practices, you’ll be well-prepared to take full advantage of the seven strategies we’ll be hearing tomorrow as the Mt. Vernon Options Club editors and experts take the podium.
A Change Of Scenery - Wining And Dining in Delray Beach
Time to head off to the wine-and-dine portion of events…I wish I could send you these, too. Last night’s ‘irreverent’ book store tour with Mark Skousen…tonight’s wine tasting straight from an Argentina vineyard…tomorrow night’s sunset cruise for Chairman’s Circle members…lunchtime presentations on Nicaraguan real estate and tax advantaged energy investments…
Sadly, I can’t. But you won’t be disappointed by the information-packed presentations and workshops we’ve been recording here. Snatch up your own CD or DVD - plus the handouts and materials from each of the highlighted speakers - for the discounted price of $149 (plus S&H).
