Live From Investment U: Behind the Scenes… Ahead of the Crowd
by Dr. Scott Brown, Education Director
Wednesday, March 17, 2010: Issue #1218
To the right… the U.S. Navy Fleet Warfare Training Center…
To the left… Harbor Island, home of America’s sailing team…
En route to the Grand Del Mar Resort – the location of this year’s Investment U Conference – I got talking to my cab driver, Patel. Despite working as a cabbie for 12 years in San Diego, I noticed he still had a Garmin GPS unit.
Patel’s reasoning: “Even after 12 years, there’s always something new. And sometimes people give me confusing instructions and directions.”
It instantly reminded me why some 300 investors are attending the conference this week: Regardless of your level of expertise, there are a lot of financial dead-ends – and an extremely challenging economic landscape.
We’re going to clear up the confusion. Starting today…
Your Own “Investment GPS”
My name is Dr. Scott Brown and I’m the Education Director of Investment U.
I’m going to be your personal “GPS” at this year’s Investment U Conference. I will sneak you into the event, so you can eavesdrop on the analysts who are revealing their top insights and picks.
If your investing “course” needs correction… if you’re looking for a solid path to prosperity… some little-known routes to riches… I’m going to give them to you.
Because you’ll struggle to build wealth by simply following the same advice that CNBC viewers see… or over 2.5 million Wall Street Journal readers get every day. By the time you hear about investment opportunities, the horse has bolted from the barn and galloping across the field.
That’s why the theme of this year’s conference is: “The Best Contrarian Investments for 2010.”
I’ll be attending the sessions here and bringing you daily reports on all the highlights. Try getting that kind of information from the mass media.
Just a few of our “against the grain” presentations include…
- “The Secret of the World’s Greatest Investors” – by Alexander Green
- “How to Profit From the Inflation Boogeyman” – by Louis Basenese
- “Forecasts & Strategies for 2010: Dangers and Opportunities” – by Mark Skousen
- “How to Profit From the Shifting Sands of Value” – by John Pugsley
- “The ABCs of Gold Mining Stocks” – by Rick Rule

On Tuesday afternoon, Julia Guth, Founder and Executive Director of Investment U, kicked off the conference by introducing the all-star panel.
“I get to meet a lot of investment experts through my job,” she noted. “And I can tell you these gentlemen in front of you are extremely talented, serious and successful with how they approach the markets.”
Like Investment U Publisher Robert Williams, for example. Robert explained that as America sat on the verge of the next Great Depression one year ago, many investors fled. Flash-forward to today, however: The S&P is up 60% and recently hit a seven-year high.
Says Robert: “We don’t get too concerned with market timing. We stay invested. Miss the ten best days of the market in a year and you’ve missed a huge opportunity.”
But not trying to time the market doesn’t mean standing pat. Robert introduced the concept of portfolio “rebalancing” and explained the reason why a Leap Year could be the best time to do this.
You can find out how to accomplish this by reserving your copy of the Investment U Conference Recordings today. Here’s how:

And you’ll want to jump on this deal now because it’s a limited-time offer that will expire at midnight (ET) on Tuesday, March 23. After that, the price will rise. Buy now and you’ll save money – it’s as simple as that.
Then it was my turn to join the conversation…
Three Factors to Look for When You Want to Buy a Stock
How do you know when to buy a stock? Three key events…
- When a company delivers better than expected earnings.
- When a stock has a high level of institutional ownership.
- When company insiders are buying big blocks of shares.
These are the things I stress in my investing education classes and also in the Investment U course that I created. But I’ve also run academic tests that reveal a much more powerful indicator than insider buying. In fact, over two years, stocks following this indicator chalked up a 28% overall gain.
Again, if you get your hands on the conference recordings, you can find out what it is – and how to use it to your advantage.
Once you’ve bought a stock, how can you almost guarantee you’ll lock in gains and avoid big losses? Richard Smith has the answer…
Eliminating Emotions and “Going Contrarian”
Richard is the man behind the charts and stock screens that you may be familiar with at Investment U. He’s got a software program dedicated to trailing-stops – the tool that allows you to cut your losses, while letting your winners run.
Simply put, setting disciplined trailing-stops takes the emotion out of investing. Investment U recommends a 25% trailing-stop for most positions, but as Richard noted, “You sometimes need to extend it to 50% for small-caps, so you don’t get whipsawed out of the position.”
Last up was Rick Rule – a prolific and captivating speaker. Rick is a geologist by trade and a true contrarian at heart. He’s made millions buying unloved sectors and has become one of America’s top natural resource and mining investment experts.
He had some poignant words for the attendees: “When it comes to investing, you’re always a beginner. Just when you think you’re not, you get slapped. The more you learn… the more you respect the investment process. The fact that you’re here at this conference instead of just watching CNBC means you’re already likely to outperform your peers who are not here.”
He ran through some of his current contrarian thoughts…
- Geothermal: Many find it boring, so they avoid it. Bad idea!
- Water: Rick says: “This is a ‘when’ investment, not ‘if.’ The next California drought is coming – and when it does, people invested in water could become very wealthy.”
And Rick has promised to provide plenty of specific recommendations in the coming days.
The First Deal Is the Best Deal
Now, it wouldn’t be fair to the conference attendees to reveal all the picks. After all, they’ve invested a lot of time and money to attend this event.
But there is one way for you to get virtually all of the “inside scoop…”
Get your hands on the conference recordings. And get them now before the price goes up on March 23.
You’ll discover the investing secrets, strategies, techniques, stock picks and behind-the-scenes action in two formats:
- MP3: View and listen to the streaming presentations on your computer. For just $99, you can reserve the Deluxe 2010 Investment U Conference Audio/Video Library Recordings by clicking here now.
- CD: To get all the conference action on CD, you can reserve the Premier 2010 Investment U Conference Audio/Video Library Recordings for $149 by clicking here now. You’ll also get the MP3 audios and videos included with this deal.
Both deals expire at midnight (ET) on Tuesday, March 23. If you wait until the deadline is over, it will cost you more to buy. So you have a very limited time to get your recordings at a big discount.
Plus, we’ll also give you a free bonus report – “Five Biotech Stocks That Have Potential to be Ten Baggers.” You’ll get this via e-mail on Wednesday, March 24.
Order today – with our 30-day, 100% money-back guarantee as your peace of mind.
Right, I’ve got to go. Watch for my next report tomorrow, where I’ll give you the lowdown on Alexander Green’s presentation and much more. Also coming up this week…
