My brother owns an environmental company (Louisiana Environmental Maintainence)in the Gulf and confirms that deep water drilling only makes up a very small part of oil industry jobs in the region.

The truth is that the oil industry misrepresented their EIR (Environmental Impact Report) on deep water drilling risks. To put deep water drilling on hold, for at least a few months, in the Gulf to re-evaluate the technology and true environmental risks makes sense. We are drilling into fields that contain between 100 million and several billion barrels of oil. We simply cannot expose the Gulf to a blowout of a field that large that cannot be capped.

Excellent article. How can the USA be so blind to the fact that natural gas is our answer to energy independence. You're right, T.Boone has been preaching this for years and still we just sit back and do nothing. Our politicians are so wrapped up in their own agendas that they can't see the big picture. It's time to wake up!!

Great article, except for the misguided conclusion at the end. The moratorium affects only a few rigs of many in the Gulf, and it is aimed at preventing the ruination of non-oil jobs in the Gulf region. Energy independence is more than being free of foreign suppliers. It is also being free of the oil industry controlling the agenda and threatening workers in fishing and tourism.

YOUR POSITION ON NATURAL GAS IS RIGHT ON! WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE OF NATIONAL RECOGNITION WRITE A SERIOUS LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT & HIS HENCHMEN & IN A FRIENDLY WAY ADVISE HIM OF THE WISDOM OF GOING TO NATURAL GAS,AT LEAST AS AN INTERRIM UNTIL MORE ENVIRONMENTALY FRIENDLY ALTERTATIVES ARE MORE VIABLE. WHO KNOWS HE OR SOMEONE MAY PICK UP ON IT. THANK YOU.
